The Quest
American writer Randal Nerhus, in his fifties, decided to trade his quiet life in Iowa for the Amazon rainforest. His goal: to place himself under the tutelage of a curandero, seeking both personal healing and enlightenment. In the Amazon, Rogelio Carihuasari was waiting for him—a Cocama shaman living in the community of Santa Sofía, near Leticia, in the Colombian Amazon. This photographic series tells the story of their encounter.
