Shipibos Living

The Shipibo are one of the few Indigenous peoples who have been able to maintain some control over the banks of a major river: the Ucayali in Peru. Besides preserving their language, they have successfully integrated two of their most representative cultural expressions into the market economy: ayahuasca shamanism and traditional designs.

Shipibos Living is the result of extensive fieldwork in two Shipibo communities: San Francisco de Yarinacocha, near the city of Pucallpa, which has suffered a terrible forest degradation; and Vencedor, a village located on the Pisqui River, where nature still provides abundance for the neighbors.
