THE CHAGRA IS SO MUCH MORE!
When you have a major technical problem, creative solutions are needed. And in the Amazon, with its relentless humidity, technical problems are all too common. In this case, the camera didn't record the sound, and I only discovered this at the end of the recording. I had no choice but to turn the footage into a silent film. The unexpected result: a docu-musical.

The Chagra Is So Much More!

The chagra is much more than a couple of hectares of land where cassava, plantain, or pineapple are grown. The chagra—the traditional Indigenous garden of the Amazonian peoples—is quality education for children, food sovereignty, a space for adult communication, solidarity, laughter, joy, and an understanding of nature’s cycles... The chagra is a miracle, and this musical documentary is a tribute to Doña Eufracia and Don Pijachi.
